IT Companies in Swindon

How many IT providers are there in Swindon?

Compare the Cloud lists 73 IT and cloud providers in Swindon and across Wiltshire. That is a moderate field, meaning a buyer will usually shortlist three or four credible local candidates rather than a dozen, and it makes the terms of leaving a contract more consequential than in a market where a replacement is easy to find.

What should the contract say about leaving?

Exit terms should state who owns the data, in what format it will be handed back, how long the provider will co-operate after notice is served, and what that assistance costs per day. Agree those points before signing, because a supplier has no incentive to negotiate them once a relationship has soured. A contract silent on exit is not neutral, it favours the incumbent.

Who owns the licences and the administrator accounts?

Ask whether Microsoft or Google tenancies, domain name registrations and firewall administrator accounts are held in your organisation's name or in the provider's. A supplier that holds the top-level credentials on its own account can make a change of provider slow, awkward and occasionally expensive, and the time to correct that is at the start rather than during a handover. Request evidence of ownership rather than an assurance.

How should a Swindon business widen the shortlist?

A Swindon business should treat the town as a starting point rather than a filter, since Bristol, Bath, Reading and Oxford are all roughly an hour away along the M4 corridor and each has a deeper market for specialist work such as security testing or a large migration. Keep the local requirement for what genuinely needs a person on site, and let everything remote be bought from the widest field available.
