IT Companies in Milton Keynes

How many IT providers are there in Milton Keynes?

Compare the Cloud lists 109 IT and cloud providers working in Milton Keynes. The town's listings lean towards data, analytics and security work rather than general office support, which reflects Milton Keynes acting as a national operations and back office base for organisations headquartered elsewhere rather than as a market of purely local small businesses.

What is the difference between a project and a managed service?

A project has a defined scope, a defined end and a price attached to a deliverable, while a managed service is an ongoing arrangement priced per month, per user or per device for as long as it runs. The distinction matters because buyers regularly sign a monthly agreement for work that was always going to finish, or commission a fixed price project for something that needs looking after indefinitely. Decide which of the two you are actually buying before comparing quotes, since the two cannot be compared on price.

What should a Milton Keynes business agree before a project starts?

Agree the acceptance criteria in writing before work begins, in terms specific enough that both sides would reach the same verdict independently. Agree who provides access to systems and data and by when, because client delay in granting access is the most common reason a fixed price becomes a variation. Agree who owns the code, configuration and documentation at the end, and agree that handover documentation is part of the deliverable rather than a favour.

Does a project provider need to be based in Milton Keynes?

A project provider does not need to be in Milton Keynes for the delivery itself, which is nearly always remote, but proximity helps for the workshops at the start and the handover at the end. Milton Keynes sits on the main line and close to the motorway network, so most national suppliers can attend without charging significant travel. The question worth asking is not where the supplier is registered but whether the named consultants doing the work will attend in person and how often.
