IT Companies in Reading

How many IT and cloud providers are there in Reading?

Compare the Cloud lists 251 IT and cloud providers in Reading, one of the largest concentrations anywhere in the UK and far bigger than the town's own size would suggest. Reading sits on the M4 corridor west of London, where a large number of international technology companies base their UK operations, so the list mixes global software vendors, distributors and consultancies with locally run service firms.

What is the difference between a software vendor and a service provider?

A software vendor sells a product and supports that product; a service provider takes responsibility for running systems on your behalf, whoever built them. Reading's directory holds an unusually high proportion of the first kind, and that distinction matters because a vendor will rarely take ownership of a fault that turns out to sit in a neighbouring system. Establish which sort of company you are speaking to in the first conversation rather than the third.

Who will actually deliver the work?

Many technology companies with a Reading address run a UK sales and marketing function locally while delivery, engineering and support sit elsewhere, sometimes in another country and another time zone. That is not a problem in itself, and it is often cheaper, but it changes who you can escalate to at four in the afternoon. Ask where the delivery team sits, what hours it works and whether your named contact has any authority over it.

What does the size of the Reading market mean for a buyer?

The density of suppliers around Reading gives a buyer real bargaining room, particularly on consultancy day rates and on migration projects where several firms can credibly bid. Use that by running a proper comparison rather than accepting the first proposal, and ask each bidder to price the same defined scope. Where a shortlist grows unmanageable, filter on demonstrated work in your sector rather than on distance from your office.
