IT Companies in Cambridge

How many IT and cloud providers are there in Cambridge?

Compare the Cloud lists 160 IT and cloud providers in Cambridge and across Cambridgeshire, one of the larger clusters outside the major city regions. Cambridge is a university and research city, and the listings reflect that, weighted towards data analytics, artificial intelligence and software companies rather than general IT support.

Is a Cambridge supplier a product company or a service company?

Many Cambridge technology firms sell a product rather than a service, and that distinction decides what a buyer actually receives. A product company licenses software and supports the software; a service company takes responsibility for running systems, staffing a helpdesk and attending sites when something physical fails. Both describe themselves as providers, so ask directly which model the supplier operates and what happens outside the boundary of its own product.

What should a research or life sciences buyer check?

Research organisations should check how a provider handles large datasets, long-running compute jobs and the movement of data between collaborating institutions, because none of that appears in a standard managed IT proposal. Ask whether the supplier has worked to grant-funded procurement timelines, which are fixed and unforgiving, and whether it has dealt with data sharing agreements where two organisations hold different obligations over the same files.

Does being in Cambridge make a difference for cloud services?

For cloud services delivered over the internet, a Cambridge address changes nothing measurable about performance, availability or support quality. Location matters for work that requires a person in the room, including lab and office hardware, network installation, and equipment that has to be physically handled. A buyer who needs only remote services should widen the shortlist well beyond the city and treat a local address as a convenience rather than a requirement.
