IT Companies in Manchester

How many IT providers are there in Manchester?

Compare the Cloud lists 325 IT and cloud providers across Manchester and Greater Manchester, making it the largest technology cluster in the UK outside London. Manchester's market includes both regional specialists serving the North West and national suppliers running delivery teams from the city, which is a distinction worth establishing early because the two behave very differently on price and on escalation.

Is a Manchester provider cheaper than a London one?

Manchester day rates for on-site and project work are generally lower than London equivalents, and the gap reflects local salary costs rather than any difference in capability. Purely remote services such as cloud hosting, backup and per-user managed support are usually priced nationally, so the saving appears on engineering time and consultancy rather than on subscriptions.

What should a Greater Manchester business look for?

Check that a provider's coverage genuinely extends across Greater Manchester rather than the city centre alone, since response times to Bolton, Wigan or Stockport are not always the same as to Deansgate. Ask how many engineers are based in the region as opposed to nationally. If the business runs shift or weekend operations, confirm support hours in writing, because standard cover often ends at 6pm.

Which sectors do Manchester providers most often serve?

Manchester's provider base skews towards digital, media, professional services and higher education, reflecting the city's own employment mix. A supplier that has repeatedly delivered for a sector will already understand its compliance obligations and its busy periods, which shortens onboarding considerably. Ask for references from the same sector rather than for references in general.
