Over 40% of Enterprises Leapfrogging Directly to Scaled AI Adoption

A joint study by R Systems and the Everest Group finds that 43% of enterprises are bypassing incremental AI pilot stages and moving directly to scaled, production-grade deployments. A further 57% remain in the pilot phase, but the trend towards rapid, organisation-wide adoption is accelerating.

The research, drawn from surveys of more than 200 enterprise leaders, highlights a growing tension between the speed of adoption and the maturity of governance. Just 7% of organisations surveyed have policies specifically addressing agentic AI — autonomous systems capable of taking actions without direct human oversight.

The report underscores that while enterprises are eager to capture productivity gains from AI, the governance, risk management, and workforce readiness infrastructure has not kept pace with deployment ambitions. This gap, the authors caution, could present significant operational and compliance risks as agentic AI becomes more prevalent.
