NordVPN 6.0 for Linux trims overlapping command-line options so that each setting has one clear way to be configured. The changes are breaking, and NordVPN advises anyone running the client in scripts, cron jobs or other automation to update their configuration before upgrading.
Protocol and technology settings are combined into a single “nordvpn set protocol” command. Obfuscation is now handled by NordWhisper, so the separate obfuscation toggle goes. A dedicated P2P server group is no longer needed because standard servers support P2P traffic.
Several commands are removed or renamed, including “whitelist”, which becomes “allowlist”, and “threatprotectionlite”, which becomes “protection”.
Separately, NordVPN has made WireGuard configuration files available for manual setup. Users can download files for its servers and configure connections by hand on routers, Linux machines, NAS devices or any WireGuard-compatible client. The company says this is expanded functionality for more technical users, not a new feature.
Full details are in NordVPN's blog post on the 6.0 release.
