CensorNet to Shake Up Stagnant Web Security Market

CensorNet has had myriad announcements recently, so we sat down with CEO Ed Macnair and his new Director of Sales Engineering, Alex Kurz to hear more about the strategy and big developments in 2015.

CensorNet, the next generation cloud security company, has made a stand this year to revive the ‘stagnant’ web security market. The appointment of Alex Kurz comes only weeks after Nikki Simpson joined the CensorNet team from Websense. A former Websense Channel Manager, Nikki is heading up CensorNet’s distribution channel.

“Much of the web security market has become dominated by large vendors and has seen no real product developments since the early 2000’s. Solutions such as Websense and Trustwave’s WebMarshal were developed before the era of Facebook and the vast number of cloud applications that we use in business today. Consequently resellers’ options have become increasingly limited, leaving a huge swathe of channel partners disillusioned with nowhere to go,” explains Ed Macnair, CEO, CensorNet.

Stepping up the pace CensorNet recently also announced a partnership with Renaissance, Ireland’s premier IT distributor.

“Renaissance is a hugely respected and forward thinking value added distributor in Ireland, with advanced technical experience and an expansive market reach. This partnership enables us to not only develop a wider reseller base across Ireland but also provides support to our existing bank of customers,” said Macnair.

“We’ve laid down the gauntlet to our competitors by developing decisive partnerships with channel partners, such as Renaissance. We are redefining cloud security by providing organisations with greater visibility and much better control in the supervision of company-wide internet access and the use of cloud applications across all devices, regardless of whether users are in-office or mobile. Working with partners who have extensive market and technology experience in the web security space will be central to our success as we intensify our growth strategy across both EMEA and North America this year.”

Web Security as-a-Service – the next big opportunity for MSPs

The appointment of Alex Kurz as Director of Sales Engineering forms part of the company’s strategy to accelerate the adoption of its next generation cloud security solutions. .

CEO Ed Macnair said CensorNet is excited to have Alex on board. Formerly Trustwave’s Technical Director for service providers in Europe, Alex brings with him a wealth of technical knowledge. Particularly adept with web and email content security, he has well established relationships within the channel, especially the service provider community.

“In recent years the web security market has been largely commoditised. It’s been all about brand design change rather than developing new product functionality. As it stands, the current market is outdated and ill-equipped to address the needs or complexity of web access and cloud applications,” explains Alex Kurz, Director of Sales Engineering, CensorNet.

“Many traditional web security solutions were developed before the era of cloud applications and have not evolved fast enough to cope with the vast number of cloud applications that we use in business today. Web security as-a-service is the next big story in the content management market and businesses need solutions that befit the environment. To be part of such a great new channel proposition for service providers is a very exciting opportunity. My primary objective will be to strengthen CensorNet’s position within the channel community and drive adoption amongst customers worldwide – and building a strong pre-sales team will be fundamental in achieving this,” continues Kurz.

Kurz will be growing CensorNet’s pre-sales engineer team, providing training and support to technically enable its new channel partners.  His role will also involve working alongside the product team to develop the next generation of content security solutions.

“Exciting times are ahead for CensorNet. With the upcoming launch of our new web security solution we will be looking to the channel to push out our solution far and wide. Alex will be a vital asset in driving our intensive channel strategy, enhancing product development and strengthening the core management team”, adds Macnair.
