Singtel's RE:AI and Mistral AI agree sovereign AI cloud deal for Singapore and wider Southeast Asia

RE:AI, the sovereign AI cloud business operated by Singtel Digital InfraCo, has signed a strategic partnership with European AI developer Mistral AI to co-develop sector-specific AI applications and establish a joint engineering centre in Singapore, the two companies announced Monday.

The partnership pairs Mistral's open-source model stack and engineering expertise with RE:AI's GPU-ready data centre infrastructure across Singapore, Johor and Batam. The intent is to deploy multi-tenant GPU-as-a-Service and AI-as-a-Service offerings designed for regulated and essential industries, including financial services and defence, where data sovereignty and on-premises deployment requirements have slowed AI adoption.

At the centre of the arrangement is a joint Applied AI Centre of Excellence — a shared engineering hub where teams from both companies and ecosystem partners will develop and test use cases including customer care AI chatbots, network operations copilots, and AI-assisted processes for enterprise procurement. Mistral AI will also leverage RE:AI's infrastructure to roll out its Mistral Compute cloud offerings for internal use and joint go-to-market initiatives.

The collaboration extends beyond the bilateral. Mistral AI has also indicated it will contribute resources to projects involving NVIDIA in Singapore, as part of what it described as a commitment to building a trusted AI ecosystem in the city-state. Singtel Group, which operates RE:AI through its Digital InfraCo division, reaches over 820 million mobile customers across 20 countries. Mistral AI, headquartered in France, has operations in the United States, United Kingdom and Singapore.

For Singtel, the deal is another move in its ongoing repositioning of its infrastructure assets around AI workloads. RE:AI's sovereign positioning — data processed and stored locally with controls meeting government and financial sector governance standards — is the differentiation Singtel is marketing to enterprises and public sector bodies across the region.
