Administrative workload is holding back growth at 84% of UK private healthcare providers, according to research from healthcare software company Semble. Its Care Coordination Tax report also found that 92% of private healthcare leaders say their administrative teams are at full stretch or already handling more than they can manage.
One pressure point is getting hold of NHS patient records, which Semble says can take weeks or months to arrive. Clinicians can end up relying on incomplete histories or on patients remembering past treatments, medications and allergies.
Semble's response is a free trial of its existing integration with ORB Connect, a cloud platform that gives organisations outside the NHS consent-led access to live GP records. The integration is available to all Semble customers from 28 October, free until 30 November 2026. From 1 December, charges apply automatically for clinicians who still have access enabled.
After feedback from beta customers, practices no longer have to switch access on for their whole clinical team. They can choose individual clinicians, start with those who need it most and widen access later. Patients authorise access with their NHS login and can withdraw consent at any time.
Dr Jenny Williams, Senior Product Manager at Semble and a former GP, said the aim is to cut the chasing that records requests create.
Semble says it supports more than 18,000 healthcare professionals and integrates with over 1,200 tools.
