SAS has launched AI Navigator, a software-as-a-service product that lets AI, data, compliance and risk leaders list every AI use case in the organisation and check it against regulations and internal policy. It is available on Microsoft Marketplace.
The tool does not ask organisations to change how they build AI. It gives a single view of the models and tools already in use, including large language models, AI agents, and open source or SAS models. A company running a customer chatbot, for example, could govern the underlying model or agent, such as Claude or Microsoft Copilot, and attach policies to the use case so it meets regulatory expectations.
AI Navigator covers a use case from experiment through deployment to retirement, whether the asset was built in-house or bought in. Policy packs from SAS partners including Protiviti and Asenion supply ready-made questions and risk classifications, so teams need not write a policy from scratch.
Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands was an early tester, through the Responsible Ethical AI in Health Care Lab it runs with SAS and Delft University of Technology.
Reggie Townsend, vice president of SAS AI Ethics, Governance and Social Impact, said: "Trustworthy AI doesn't happen by accident. It requires intention, transparency and the right governance structures from the start."
SAS cites its 2026 Data and AI Impact Report, with research from IDC, which found that 75% of UK organisations plan to raise AI investment over the next 12 months while struggling to turn it into measurable business impact. Kathy Lange, research director for AI, data and automation software at IDC, said: "Many organisations are struggling with AI sprawl as models, agents and third-party tools proliferate across the enterprise."
AI Navigator is a standalone product that works for new and existing SAS customers, and customers receive free access for six months.
