January 2015: ComparetheCloud.net Global 50 #CloudInfluence Individuals
For the purposes of the Global 50 #CloudInfluence Individuals we exclude journalists and other authors who tend to report other people’s opinions and focus instead on the key opinion holders themselves – those that tend to be quoted in any such articles.
The top twenty influencers is an interesting mix of industry heavyweights which includes several CEOs and CFOs from the firms that are listed in our Global 50 #CloudInfluence Organisations.
At 1st and 2nd we have the CEO’s of Microsoft and Dropbox. In 3rd is Marc Rogers, the principal security researcher at CloudFlare Inc., who is also a former hacker and has been widely quoted recently on security issues. In 4th is Rodney Rogers, chairman and CEO of Virtustream. Having posted almost 10,000 tweets, he is the most prolific of all the heavyweight influencers on social media. Then in 5th and 6th are two IBMers: Virginia Rometty IBM’s CEO (and the highest placed woman on the list) and Martin Schroeter IBM’s CFO. The next three heavyweights are analysts: Daniel Ives at FBR Capital Markets is the highest profile investment analyst. He regularly issues research notes on the primary tech players and is quoted heavily in the tech and business media. Ed Anderson is research vice president at Gartner and the highest profile industry analyst. And Ross MacMillan is an Equity Research Analyst at RBC Capital Markets.
We then have a number of other senior company execs from Microsoft, Oracle, Apple, Amazon Web Services and SAP. These are followed by Peter Kenny, the chief market strategist at Clearpool Group in New York; Jim Reavis, the executive director of the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA); and Roberto Medrano the Executive Vice President at SOA Software – he was recently cited as one of the top 100 Hispanic professionals in the information technology (IT) field in the HITEC 100 List.
Completing the top twenty are Bill Fathers the Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit at VMware; Amy Hood, the CFO for Office and Dynamics at Microsoft; and Peter De Santis, a VP at AWS Compute Services.
This pushes Larry Ellison of Oracle down to 21st on the list, with other notable characters that appear including Edward Snowden at 46 – still quoted even in his absence, and Missy Krasner, the second highest placed woman and managing director of healthcare and life sciences at Box.
January’s cycle of Q4 announcements from the major players and the fact that almost all are playing up their cloud revenues accounts accounts for the presence of so many of these firms in the list of organisations, and of their top execs in the list of individuals. Notably absent from both lists are HP and its execs as HP has a different quarterly reporting cycle.
