Onomi launches agile services for hybrid data

Three years after the sale of £10m Oracle cloud provider Quantix to Interoute, Co-founders Andrew Slater and Julian Boneham have launched Onomi, an exciting new venture focused on providing managed services for hybrid database environments.

The advent of Big Data has created a groundswell of interest in using data to create innovative and potentially game changing solutions within the enterprise. In response to this, the demand for NoSQL database technologies has mirrored the explosion in the volumes of unstructured data. This growth trend looks set to continue as more organisations are increasingly realising the need to look at complementing their existing relational database investment with next generation databases such as MongoDB.

Onomi Director and Co-founder Andrew Slater states “We have seen a huge rise in the use of NoSQL within corporate IT environments and one of the overwhelming use cases is to complement an existing relational database deployment such as Oracle or SQL Server. With a deep background and long history in database services we have created Onomi to address these changing needs and to help companies harness the benefits of NoSQL, without having to throw away their existing database investment.”

The Onomi management team will be using all the experience they’ve gained in the Database Managed Services market over the past 17 years to refresh and update the service model focusing on outcome based SLAs and cloud-ready automation. Julian Boneham states “We’re employing some of the brightest minds in the database management marketplace to ensure that our customers can take advantage of an emerging technology area such a NoSQL whilst equally relying on Onomi to bring a mature service model to meet their operational and governance needs.”

Vijay Vijayasankar, VP & GM, Global Channels and Global Services, MongoDB commented: “We’re excited to have Onomi as a partner working with us to help drive the benefits of MongoDB in the enterprise. Onomi is a great example of how our partner ecosystem is developing to meet operationally focused demand from customers running MongoDB in business critical environments.”

Industry veteran Mike Briercliffe, who has known the team for many years and who is acting as an advisor to the Onomi board states: “Everyone is talking about Big Data and the Internet of Things and the sheer speed at which data is being created as a result. We’re only now starting to see the emergence of new-style services companies that are actually going to help companies make best use of these new technologies.”

“Onomi is one of those and has spotted a significant gap that has formed in the market. There’s a need to integrate NoSQL databases with traditionally structured relational databases and to provide the ongoing operational support services. This will be a hot topic for an ever increasing number of CIOs and IT Directors over the next few years, in fact for business management as a whole,” added Briercliffe.
