French robotics company Wandercraft says Renault will take a first deployment of 350 Calvin-40 humanoid robots as early as 2027, one of twelve major industrial accounts the company has signed in less than a year.
Calvin-40 is an autonomous humanoid built for heavy, repetitive work in the hardest-to-fill positions in industry and logistics. It lifts up to 40 kg, works without a teleoperator and uses 3D vision, autonomous navigation and adaptive control to move cartons and crates between workstations. Wandercraft says it fits into existing facilities without changes to their infrastructure, and a future version is aimed at 50 kg. The robot runs on the company’s proprietary physical AI platform, built on twelve years of work in exoskeletons, and Renault Group is a development partner as well as a customer.
The scale-up is tied to a new Paris headquarters, inaugurated on 5 October 2026. The 4,300 m² site houses R&D, production and maintenance, including 800 m² for assembling, storing and maintaining robots. Wandercraft is targeting a production rate of one robot an hour and has set a goal of one million robots a year, which it says it will pursue with a largely European production base.
Chief executive and co-founder Matthieu Masselin said: “We are now the global leader in our historic market. We are scaling up to become the global leader in humanoid robotics, with 12 blue-chip clients signed in less than 12 months and 350 humanoid robots deployed next year.”
The company's historic market is medical exoskeletons. On 1 October 2026 it announced the acquisition of Ekso Bionics, which it says makes it the global leader in that field and extends its US presence. Its Atalante X and Ekso's EksoNR are together used in more than 700 rehabilitation centres worldwide, and the personal exoskeleton Eve, which is FDA-cleared, targets everyday mobility at home for wheelchair users.
