SailPoint launches autonomous identity agents to address governance gap affecting 79% of enterprises

SailPoint launched four interconnected capabilities at Navigate 2026 in Austin, Texas on 6 October, addressing a governance gap that its own research puts in stark relief: 79% of enterprises now run AI agents in production, yet only 2% have deployed identity security tools built specifically to govern them.

The centrepiece is a set of three classes of Autonomous Agents that monitor access, enforce policy, and right-size privileges without requiring manual review at each step. According to SailPoint's Horizons of Identity Security report, UK enterprises are adding as many as 10,000 AI agents and machine identities a month, a volume that makes human-in-the-loop governance impractical in most environments.

Alongside the agents, SailPoint introduced Autonomous Identity Security Posture Management (A-ISPM), which draws on live identity context from the SailPoint Atlas platform to continuously surface critical exposures across all identity types and trigger real-time remediation. The intent is to replace periodic, point-in-time access reviews with a continuous process that closes gaps as they are detected rather than weeks or months later.

The third major addition is an expanded Agentic Fabric, which maps the full AI agent surface area within an organisation. It adds shadow AI discovery, runtime authorisation controls, and an instant kill switch capability that can revoke access from a specific agent without disrupting the wider automation environment.

The fourth element is Zero Standing Privilege, delivered through Just-in-Time (JIT) provisioning. Rather than granting always-on access to people, service accounts, and AI agents, JIT issues access for specific tasks and withdraws it when the task completes. SailPoint applies this model equally to human users and non-human identities, treating both as part of a single access governance framework.

Beyond the core product announcements, SailPoint is extending its infrastructure footprint, opening a new data centre in South Korea and working towards FedRAMP High, PCI DSS 4.0, and EU Sovereign Cloud compliance certifications.
