The NYSE-listed manufacturer of critical digital infrastructure submitted the application to Donegal County Council and announced the hiring targets at Government Buildings in Dublin, where Taoiseach Micheál Martin joined Vertiv's EMEA president Paul Ryan and IDA Ireland CEO Michael Lohan to mark the occasion.
Vertiv has already brought more than 500 people on board across its Irish sites since January, building on an established footprint that spans Letterkenny, Burnfoot, Campsie (Derry), a central procurement office in Limerick and a sales-and-service operation in Dublin. The Letterkenny expansion would add manufacturing capacity for the power, cooling and industrialised infrastructure products — switchgear, busbar, precision cooling — that go into colocation and hyperscale deployments.
The timing reflects something straightforward: every major cloud provider is racing to build out AI compute, and the kit that fills data centres has to be manufactured somewhere. Vertiv has positioned its Irish operations as a supply node for that global buildout, with the new hires intended to deepen its engineering bench in power and cooling specialisms.
Paul Ryan, Vertiv's president for EMEA, said the expansion reflected the strategic weight of its Irish operations: "As demand for critical digital infrastructure continues to accelerate, we are helping customers to deploy AI and data centre capacity worldwide. The expected extension, together with continued recruitment across our facilities, is part of our ongoing actions to support continued growth, while creating opportunities for skills development and career growth across the region."
Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, described the move as evidence that global companies can operate high-value manufacturing from regional Irish locations: "The expansion of its Letterkenny facility reflects the capability of the local team, the strength of the wider North West talent base, and the strategic importance of Vertiv's Irish operations within its global business."
