Scaleway, the European public cloud and artificial intelligence platform of the iliad Group, has launched a new cloud region in Milan, Italy, along with a local market presence.
The announcement is part of a broader European growth strategy. Scaleway already operates three cloud regions in France, Poland, and the Netherlands, all wholly European-owned, with two more soon to be added in Sweden and Germany.
As a European hyperscaler, we are expanding our presence across Europe, and anchoring our ability to stay close to local markets. The launch of operations in Italy is a crucial step in this direction. Europe cannot rely entirely on foreign hyperscalers to fuel its digital economy. European companies must have access to hyperscale cloud platforms built in Europe, managed in accordance with EU regulations, and aligned with European priorities.
Entry into the Italian Market
The Milan region will include three availability zones, the standard architecture used by Scaleway to ensure high availability and native redundancy for mission-critical workloads. The first availability zone, built in a data centre in Settimo Milanese, is already operational. The other two, in Basiglio and Milan, will be completed in the coming months.
Scaleway has opened a branch office in Milan and is working to establish regional partnerships and strengthen its presence in the Italian ecosystem. The company is actively pursuing ACN (National Cybersecurity Agency) level 1 certification as a cloud service provider — a requirement for public sector projects.
A European Hyperscaler
Scaleway aims to create a European hyperscaler by combining a large-scale platform with a strong presence across regional ecosystems. The company's offering is tailored to organisations of all sizes, from startups to large corporations, with scalability and competitiveness advantages over the hyperscalers currently in the market.
