Rocket Software has announced new AI capabilities across its application modernisation portfolio, covering IBM i, IBM Z, MultiValue, and Uniface. The additions span developer tooling, database management, and system operations, with a stated focus on AI-generated code analysis, unit test generation targeting coverage above 90%, and AIOps for operational monitoring.
Developer-facing features include AI-powered static code analysis, RPG code modularisation, cross-platform IDE integration, and integration with Git and Azure Pipelines for IBM i environments, connecting legacy execution to contemporary DevOps toolchains. The AIOps layer is designed to detect issues and surface insights within mission-critical environments where downtime carries disproportionate cost.
Rocket cites workforce constraints as the primary driver. The Linux Foundation found that 57% of organisations identify upskilling existing staff as their primary response to technical talent gaps. AI tooling on familiar platforms lowers the skill barrier without requiring migration off systems where existing business logic runs.
The company’s AI Governance Board oversees policies for safe and ethical AI use across its products, a point Rocket highlighted explicitly in the announcement.
“Today the value of AI is now measured by how confidently organisations can leverage it to their most critical systems,” said Puneet Kohli, president of the application modernisation business unit at Rocket Software. “By embedding governed, explainable AI directly into the platforms and workflows our customers already trust, we’re helping organisations accelerate modernisation, extend the value of existing technology investments, and equip developers of all skill levels to confidently support mission-critical applications.”
The simultaneous release across four platforms reflects the breadth of Rocket’s installed base among organisations running workloads on infrastructure that predates modern cloud architecture. Support for containerised deployments and hybrid architectures is included.
