Qt for MCUs adds support for Nuvoton's Gerda HMI controller

Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan and Qt Group have announced that Nuvoton's Gerda HMI controller platform is now supported as target hardware for Qt for MCUs. The pairing is aimed at automotive and motorcycle instrument clusters, head-up displays and home appliance display panels that need rich graphics, fluid animation and responsive touch without the cost of external memory.

Gerda's large built-in RAM and its display, connectivity and control interfaces allow standalone HMI systems with no external memory. Qt for MCUs' graphics optimisation and Gerda's texture compression reduce the memory footprint of the interface, which the companies say lowers component count and total system cost in high-volume products.

The combination also supports secure over-the-air updates, so developers can change interfaces and add features after a product has shipped. Qt for MCUs brings an integrated development environment, ready-made GUI components, the QML language, simulation and agentic AI skills to the design-to-production workflow.

"For years, the choice of a microcontroller was between an interface people enjoy using and a system cost the product could carry. That trade-off is what we set out to remove," said Michele Rossi, Director of Qt MCUs Product Management at Qt Group.

Support for the Gerda family is available now. Nuvoton will demonstrate Qt-based interfaces running live on Gerda hardware at electronica 2026 in Munich, 10 to 13 November, in Hall B5, stand 360.
