Europe's largest cloud provider reached a significant compliance milestone today as its SNC Cloud Platform joined Bare Metal Pod and Hosted Private Cloud in carrying the SecNumCloud mark. The qualification, awarded by Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information, is France's highest-tier accreditation for cloud services, covering data sovereignty, operational security, and regulatory alignment.
The timing matters. Article 31 of French Law No. 2024-449, implemented by decree in April 2026, mandates SecNumCloud-certified cloud services for sensitive French State data and the operators of critical infrastructure. SNC Cloud Platform, currently deployed in France and priced on a pay-as-you-go basis, is built on open APIs and open-source standards — designed to slot into existing environments without forcing vendor lock-in.
OVHcloud says the platform will expand to Italy, Germany, and Poland in coming months, with each deployment conforming to applicable national frameworks rather than a one-size-fits-all European overlay. That geography reflects the EU's broader Cloud and AI Development Act (CADA), which reaches full implementation by 2027 and is already influencing procurement decisions in the public and regulated sectors.
Founder and Chairman Octave Klaba framed the accreditation as infrastructure politics as much as compliance: Europe, he said, needs technology it controls, not just technology that stores data within its borders. OVHcloud operates 46 data centres worldwide and supports 1.7 million customers across more than 140 countries.
