EXA Infrastructure completes Milan to Zurich link and adds a 1,600km Paris to Vienna route

EXA Infrastructure has completed two terrestrial fibre routes in Europe, Milan to Zurich and Paris to Vienna, adding capacity for AI, cloud and content traffic.

The Milan to Zurich cable runs 335km and is the last section of the roughly 1,050km Frankfurt to Zurich, Milan and Genoa corridor. EXA says it is the first carrier-grade, low-loss G.652.D cable run by a single operator across the Alps. It links the Frankfurt and Milan data centre hubs to the Genoa subsea cable ecosystem, with hundreds of fibres and modular in-line amplifier sites so capacity can grow.

Paris to Vienna runs about 1,600km and extends the London to Balkans corridor towards Turkey and the Middle East. It also creates new Paris to Frankfurt and Vienna to Frankfurt paths and carries transatlantic traffic from Western Europe into Frankfurt.

Both routes use low-loss G.652.D fibre, with dark fibre, spectrum and wavelength services on offer. EXA is positioning them as part of a plan to run subsea and terrestrial assets as one mesh across Europe and North America.

Steve Roberts, Head of Strategic Investments and Product Management at EXA Infrastructure, said: “AI and cloud traffic has outgrown the idea that diversity means a backup path.” Customers, he added, want to design around resilience, latency and capacity.

The routes follow EXA's Bilbao to Barcelona route and the unveiling of EXA Meridian, its ninth transatlantic cable system, which is due to be ready for service in 2029.
