At IBC in Milan this week, Brightcove is showing off the AI Agentic Hub — a capability that lets users define an outcome and have AI agents coordinate the actions needed to achieve it across the platform. The Hub is already live in production; IBC is the public debut.
The Agentic Hub sits inside Brightcove Gen 2, a rebrand and bundling exercise the company is using to frame 22 major product updates and more than 30 incremental platform improvements released over the past 18 months. The framing is deliberate: Brightcove was acquired by Italian software firm Bending Spoons in 2023, and Gen 2 is the first product release that explicitly credits Bending Spoons' engineering and AI teams for the pace of change.
In practice the AI Agentic Hub connects to Brightcove's existing analytics, content management, and monetisation layers. Users issue a goal — "optimise ad placements for this segment" or "flag underperforming clips from last month" — and the agents handle the underlying API calls. The chat-based interface is the primary entry point, though the company hasn't published specifics on the underlying model stack or the degree to which agents can act autonomously versus requiring a human confirmation step.
The rest of Gen 2 covers ground the company has been shipping incrementally since late 2024: the redesigned Prism interface, localisation and captioning improvements, Next-Gen Live, and expanded server-side ad insertion for connected TV. None of these are new at IBC; they're being presented collectively under the Gen 2 label for the first time.
Facundo Alvarez Morales, Head of Product at Brightcove, framed the moment around the pressure video teams are under: "Video teams are expected to reach more audiences, personalize experiences across devices and languages, drive more value from every viewer, and move faster than ever, often without adding headcount. That's the tension Brightcove Gen 2 is built to resolve."
Brightcove counts media companies, broadcasters, and enterprise communications teams among its customers. The Gen 2 positioning — earn more, do more with less, move faster — maps to a market where streaming margins are thin and production teams have been reduced across the industry over the past two years. Whether the AI Agentic Hub becomes a meaningful differentiator or another AI-branded interface wrapper depends on the depth of the agent actions available post-IBC, when broader rollout is expected.
