European public bodies that want AI in their meetings but not their data in US hands now have another option. Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) has introduced Rainbow Premium, a licence tier for its Rainbow collaboration and telephony platform that adds AI features hosted and governed entirely in Europe.
ALE says the tier works inside a customer's existing Rainbow setup, with no migration, hardware change or workflow change. The first release covers meeting transcription and summaries, live captioning and translation into five languages at once, voice message transcription, document translation and administrator-defined custom prompts. The features run in six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
Aimed at the public sector, healthcare and defence
The company is pitching the product at organisations that face tight rules on where data may be processed, citing the EU Data Act and the European Commission's Sovereign Cloud Framework. It points to Gartner's forecast that European spending on sovereign cloud infrastructure as a service will grow 83% year on year, from $6.9 billion to $12.6 billion.
Rainbow is ISO 27001 certified and holds national certifications in its key European markets: HDS and ANSSI CSPN in France, BSI C5 in Germany, ENS in Spain and ACN in Italy. ALE says the platform also meets GDPR, HIPAA and FERPA requirements.
The vendor also addresses staff who reach for unapproved AI tools. Group Chief Technology Officer Moussa Zaghdoud said employees are adopting such tools faster than their employers can vet them.
“Employees are increasingly adopting AI tools faster than their organizations can approve them, potentially exposing sensitive business data to security, sovereignty, and compliance risks,” said Moussa Zaghdoud, Group Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice-President of Infrastructure, Platforms & Services at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise.
