Singapore tops Lemon.io ranking of the most AI-ready workforces

Nearly two in three adults in Singapore now use AI tools such as ChatGPT, almost double the share in the US. That is the headline from a new study by Lemon.io, a software talent marketplace, which ranks the countries with the most AI-ready workforces.

Lemon.io scored each country out of 100 on how many adults use AI tools, how fast that share has grown in the past year, how many professionals hold AI engineering skills, how many developers there are and how keen people are to learn. Singapore came first, followed by South Korea, the Netherlands, Israel and Ireland. The United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom complete the top ten.

Singapore has 64.3% of adults using AI and 79% of workers using it on the job. It also counts about 479 GitHub developer accounts for every 1,000 working-age people, more than triple the US figure of 147.

South Korea ranks second on speed. The share of adults using AI rose by 15 percentage points in a year, the largest increase, and 70% of workers use it at work. In the Netherlands, nearly one in five working-age adults has a GitHub developer account, more than in any other country bar Singapore, and 53% of employees use AI at work.

Israel has the highest share of professionals with AI engineering skills or AI jobs, at about 2.3%, and 42% of its adults have had AI training. Ireland has half of its adults using AI, with use up 8 points over the year, and 64% of employees using it at work.

The UAE has the most active users, with 73.3% of adults and 92% of workers using AI tools. The UK sits tenth on the list, with 43.7% of adults using AI and 65% of workers.

A senior talent sourcer at Lemon.io said the skills people were hired for are changing fast. The World Economic Forum expects 39% of workers' existing skills to be transformed or become outdated by 2030, and the talent marketplace argues that training pays off most when it starts early.
