Lifecycle thinking is part of this as well. When planning infrastructure, consider what happens when it is no longer needed. Set decommissioning criteria at the outset, and make it part of your deployment workflow.

Technical improvements are powerful, but they only stick when culture supports them. A team that values resource efficiency will find creative ways to save energy regardless of the tools in front of them.
