Ten years at the top: Veeam extends Gartner backup leadership as AI agents reshape data security

Gartner published its 2026 Magic Quadrant for Backup and Data Protection Platforms on 29 June, placing Veeam in the Leaders quadrant for the tenth year running and ranking the company Highest in Ability to Execute for the seventh straight time.

The recognition lands at a moment when Veeam's product narrative has shifted noticeably away from classical backup toward a broader data trust argument. Following the acquisition of Securiti AI, the company has integrated the DataAI Command Graph into its platform, adding data security posture management and classification across both live and backup environments. The pitch is that understanding which data is sensitive, who has accessed it, and what condition it is in before a recovery event reduces the time to restore clean, prioritised data after ransomware or an incident.

Anand Eswaran, CEO of Veeam, framed the rationale around the pace at which AI-driven automation is now interacting with enterprise data: “Traditional approaches to resilience were built with humans in mind but today, agents bring AI to your data at machine speed, meaning the security control point for your organization is now the data itself. Veeam is the first trust platform to unify data security, privacy, compliance, governance, and resilience together, enabling organizations to safely accelerate AI at speed, without any of the risks.”

Beyond the Securiti integration, the latest platform additions include Coveware by Veeam, which offers cyber extortion readiness with 24/7 incident response and a 15-minute SLA covering forensic triage, threat actor negotiation and decryption assistance. The company has also released a Linux Software Appliance, a pre-configured backup server hardened to DISA STIG standards that removes the Windows OS dependency and includes multi-factor authentication and immutable storage out of the box.

Veeam counts more than 550,000 customers across 150 countries, with approximately 80% of the Fortune 500 in its base, and reported annual recurring revenue above $2 billion. In Gartner Peer Insights' March 2026 voice-of-the-customer survey, 98% of reviewers said they would recommend the platform, with an overall rating of 4.8 out of 5.

VeeamON Sydney takes place on 30 July 2026.
