The expansion of Tia, TeamViewer's Intelligent Agent, was announced on 8 September. The previous version advised IT experts on what to do; the new one can do it, subject to a human approval gate before each action is implemented. That gate is by design rather than a limitation: TeamViewer's own research found that 61% of employees prefer AI to take no independent action, and among the 39% open to AI acting at all, most chose a review-and-approve model over full autonomy.
Tia Troubleshooting works inside remote support sessions across TeamViewer ONE, Tensor and SMB licences. It analyses device data alongside the organisation's library of previous cases and proven fixes, prioritising established solutions and generating new diagnostic scripts where needed. Once a fix is identified, it requests approval, implements it and then validates that the problem is actually resolved. Every step is logged alongside the IT expert's approval, creating an audit trail visible in Session Insights.
The use case for less experienced IT staff is a structured process that draws on accumulated case knowledge. For senior engineers, the value is speed: Tia can work through device data and cross-system checks faster than a person can, compressing the investigation phase on complex cases. For end users, it means more issues resolved on first contact rather than escalated.
Mei Dent, Chief Product and Technology Officer at TeamViewer, said: "IT teams shouldn't have to choose between doing everything manually and fully handing over control to AI. Governed autonomy offers a balanced way to expand AI's involvement as trust develops, and that's the direction we're building with Tia."
TeamViewer's research also found that IT leaders expect close to 40% of digital workplace services to operate without manual input by 2030, with more than a quarter already reporting some level of this today.
