Peer Software releases PeerGFS v6.4 with faster SMB/NFS replication and improved edge data management

Organisations running data-intensive workloads across semiconductor fabs, life sciences labs, and AI/ML pipelines are distributing files across more locations than traditional file management infrastructure was designed for. PeerGFS v6.4 is Peer Software's response to the performance and resilience gap that creates.

Peer Software today released the latest version of its Global File Service platform, PeerGFS v6.4. The release focuses on performance across distributed environments: significantly faster scheduled scan and real-time replication for both SMB and NFS workloads, improved resilience for large file transfer resumption when connectivity breaks across distributed sites, and enhanced performance and manageability at edge locations in bandwidth-constrained environments.

Audit capabilities have also been upgraded, giving IT teams better visibility into configuration and management activity across their infrastructure.

The problem the platform addresses has sharpened as enterprise data gravity has fragmented. Compute resources now sit at data centres, edge locations, and cloud simultaneously, and keeping file data synchronised, accessible, and close to compute — without incurring constant replication overhead or building separate management stacks per environment — is an operational constraint rather than a nice-to-have.

"As organisations scale data-intensive workloads across data centres, edge locations and cloud environments, the ability to keep data synchronised, accessible and close to compute has become a critical operational imperative," said Jimmy Tam, CEO of Peer Software. "PeerGFS helps customers eliminate the friction of distributed file management by improving performance, increasing resiliency and giving IT teams greater control over how data moves across their global infrastructure."

Peer Software targets the semiconductor, healthcare, life sciences, and AI/ML verticals, where data volumes are large and the cost of stale or inaccessible data is measured in operational hours rather than user annoyance. PeerGFS v6.4 is available now.
