NexGen Cloud opens City of London headquarters as UK AI sovereignty push gathers pace

A UK-owned GPU cloud provider has staked out its first London headquarters and launched a dedicated Network Operations Centre, timing the moves to the government's intensifying effort to build homegrown AI infrastructure that doesn't depend on US hyperscalers.

NexGen Cloud has opened a new headquarters in the City of London, the company's most significant UK investment since its founding. Alongside the office, it is establishing a UK NOC to provide around-the-clock infrastructure monitoring, proactive incident management, and structured escalation response for enterprise customers running AI workloads on its Hyperstack platform.

The company positions itself as a sovereign alternative to the large American cloud providers, a pitch that has gained traction as the UK government accelerates its AI strategy and funds its first Sovereign AI initiative. NexGen Cloud is a UK-owned NVIDIA Cloud Partner with Tier 3 data centres across Europe and Canada.

Four executive appointments accompany the expansion. Prasanna Rengarajan joins as Chief Financial Officer from a background in corporate finance and investor relations. Rob Mooney takes the Chief Revenue Officer seat, bringing nearly two decades in high-performance computing and cloud services. Jessie Cannady joins as Head of Risk and Compliance, and Ashley Williams as Head of Partnerships, responsible for scaling EMEA operations.

Tim Flagg, CEO of UKAI, the UK's AI trade association, called the move "a significant vote of confidence in the UK AI ecosystem," adding that NexGen Cloud "represents exactly the kind of homegrown capability the UK needs to build genuine AI sovereignty." Julian David, CEO of techUK, said the expansion "shows the UK is seen as a powerful player in the tech and AI ecosystem."

Charlotte Farrell, NexGen Cloud's COO, framed the hires in operational rather than marketing terms: "Scaling AI globally requires more than just raw GPU power. It requires know-how, industry experience, and agile thinking to navigate high-stakes sectors and use cases."

The company has aggressive hiring plans for 2026, with roles opening across engineering, infrastructure, sales, and operations. Open positions are listed on its careers page.

NexGen Cloud's decision to expand in London shows the UK is seen as a powerful player in the tech and AI ecosystem. Their investment in UK-owned, AI infrastructure is a strong statement of confidence in UK tech.
