Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank, Basler Kantonalbank with Bank Cler AG, St. Galler Kantonalbank AG, and Thurgauer Kantonalbank have jointly selected Avaloq to rebuild their mobile banking capabilities in a coordinated phased migration that will affect around one million customers.
The project follows a period of joint evaluation among the four cantonal banks, which chose to assess technology partners collectively rather than independently — an arrangement that is itself intended to become a model for how Swiss cantonal banks approach digitalisation. By sharing experience and coordinating on vendor selection, the banks aim to strengthen their combined digital capabilities and reduce duplication of effort.
Avaloq's new mobile banking platform, which the banks will migrate to, includes trading and portfolio management, configurable dashboards, real-time notifications, Apple Pay and Google Pay integration, and credit card management. The architecture allows individual banks to add features independently over time, giving each institution flexibility within a shared deployment framework.
Avaloq, a subsidiary of NEC Corporation, delivers its software both as cloud-based SaaS and on-premises, and provides banking operations outsourcing through a business process as a service model. The company works with more than 170 financial institutions globally, across private banking, wealth management, investment management, and retail banking segments.
