Black & White Engineering opens Madrid office as European data centre investment accelerates

The office will be led by Hector Hernandez, a data centre and critical infrastructure engineer with more than 20 years' experience across hyperscale and colocation environments in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and the Americas. Marcos Uttley, newly appointed Regional Director for Europe, will oversee the consultancy's broader southern European expansion; he brings CEO, Managing Director and COO experience across Spain, Portugal, Italy, the UK, Germany and the United States.

"Spain is an important market for data centre investment and gives us a strong base from which to support clients locally and across wider Europe," Uttley said. "The Madrid office reflects our continued focus on building depth in key markets while drawing on the technical experience of our global team."

Hernandez, who holds Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer status, will build a local team offering civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering alongside design management. He said the pace of market development in Spain was a significant draw. "Clients need advisers who understand both the technical demands of these projects and the local delivery environment."

Black & White Engineering employs more than 1,200 people globally and focuses on mission-critical buildings and infrastructure. The Madrid opening follows continued international expansion, with the consultancy citing the data centre sector as the primary driver of its geographic footprint.
