Payment infrastructure seldom makes headlines, but as merchants and financial institutions demand more from managed connectivity, Transaction Network Services is putting a dedicated leader in charge of its global Payments Market division.
Transaction Network Services (TNS), a global provider of managed network and payment infrastructure serving more than 2,800 organisations across 50 countries, has appointed Michael Johnson as Global Managing Director for its Payments Market business, effective August 2026.
Johnson joined TNS in 2017 as Vice President of APAC Operations and was later promoted to Managing Director for Asia Pacific Payments, where he also took responsibility for the ADVAM business following its acquisition by TNS. Before joining the company, he spent 15 years at First Data Australia and New Zealand, rising to Vice President of Global Service Delivery, and held the role of CEO at PAX Technology Australia.
"As payment ecosystems continue to evolve, our customers need a trusted partner that can simplify complexity while delivering secure, resilient and scalable infrastructure that their mission-critical commerce depends on," Johnson said at the announcement. "Building on TNS's strong heritage in payments, I'm looking forward to working with our global teams to help customers innovate with confidence."
TNS Chief Executive Mike Keegan pointed to Johnson's established relationships across TNS's regional and corporate teams as the deciding factor. "Michael's knowledge of TNS's payments and connectivity products, services and customers will ensure that we remain focused on delivering on the significant opportunities we have in our Payments Market business," he said.
Founded in 1990 in the United States, TNS positions itself as an infrastructure-as-a-service provider for the payments industry. Its portfolio covers unattended and in-store payment terminals, online payment solutions, global network connectivity, and what it calls a cloud-native payment orchestration platform.
