Scality has released ARTESCA+ Veeam HA, a multi-node upgrade to its unified backup appliance that delivers simultaneous high availability across the Veeam Data Platform, configuration database, and ARTESCA object storage — with no external servers or plugins required. The product targets mid-size enterprises seeking enterprise-class ransomware resilience without dedicated security teams to run it.
The previous version, launched in April 2025, ran as a single-node appliance. The new multi-node architecture introduces three layers of redundancy: application HA through Veeam Data Platform v13, database HA for metadata across nodes, and storage HA via ARTESCA's distributed architecture. If any node fails, the system continues operating. The platform scales from 50 TB to 10 PB and deploys on standard x86 hardware from Supermicro, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, Dell, and others.
Scality's positioning rests on two particular selling points. First, running Veeam and ARTESCA on the same hardware eliminates external communication paths between backup and storage, keeping credentials internal and enforcing a predefined zero-trust firewall. Second, Scality maintains what it describes as an industry-first $100,000 cyber guarantee: if an external cyberattack compromises immutably stored data, Scality pays the affected customer directly, with no special support contract required.
The immutability enforcement relies on S3 Object Lock in compliance mode — once written during the retention period, data cannot be modified, deleted, or encrypted by any user or administrator. Scality calls the broader security architecture CORE5, which applies controls at five levels from API to infrastructure.
The Veeam integration carries weight beyond the product mechanics. Veeam's own research puts the proportion of ransomware attacks that target backup repositories at over 90 percent.
