Twelve companies across identity, cloud, cybersecurity and enterprise software have formed the Blueprint Alliance, a cross-industry coalition co-authoring an open, multi-vendor reference architecture for securing AI agents as they proliferate across enterprise systems.
The founding members are Okta, Amazon Web Services, CrowdStrike, Databricks, Docker, Google Cloud, Lovable, Proofpoint, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Wiz and Zscaler. GE Appliances and World Central Kitchen are serving as strategic advisors, testing the approach against real-world industrial and humanitarian operations respectively.
The architecture addresses four governance questions that organisations are struggling to answer as agent counts scale: where agents exist, what they are permitted to do, what they are doing in real time, and how to respond when something goes wrong. The urgency is backed by Gartner's projections: the average Fortune 500 enterprise will have more than 150,000 agents in operation by 2028, yet, according to Gartner, only 13% of organisations currently believe they have adequate AI agent governance in place.
Alliance members have aligned on six principles: treating every agent as a first-class identity, scoping access to the task rather than granting standing access, keeping delegation traceable, monitoring runtime behaviour continuously, enabling containment that is instant and reversible, and ensuring governance adapts at the pace AI moves.
The architecture is an evolution of a blueprint first introduced by Okta in March 2026, expanded under the Alliance into an open standard available to organisations regardless of their vendor stack. Members have committed to deeper interoperability including cross-vendor signal sharing and reference integrations. In parallel, Okta announced new capabilities for managing risk across the agent lifecycle, providing access controls while maintaining visibility and containment.
