For most enterprise IT teams, the browser is the one layer of the endpoint stack they can see but cannot govern. Employees open AI tools, install extensions and access SaaS applications directly in Chrome or Edge; those actions rarely touch the firewall, the EDR or any configuration management tool IT controls.
NinjaOne Browser Management, announced on 15 September 2026, adds browser-level coverage to the company's Unified IT Operations Platform. IT teams and MSPs get a live inventory of every installed extension across managed browsers, can approve or block them based on risk scores, and gain visibility into which AI tools employees are using in the browser.
The timing is pointed. Earlier this year the Cloud Security Alliance documented two malicious Chrome extensions impersonating AI assistants, with a combined install base of more than 900,000 users, that exfiltrated conversation data undetected. Neither triggered EDR nor firewall alerts, CSA said, because the malicious activity never left the browser sandbox.
"One of the most active layers of enterprise work is the browser, and for most organizations, it's also the least governed, introducing risk across environments," said Phil Hochmuth, Research VP for Endpoint Management and Enterprise Mobility at IDC. "Browser management has become an essential part of managing risk, and unifying it under the same operational model IT teams and MSPs already use to manage the rest of IT operations simplifies workflows and improves efficiency."
The shadow AI angle has sharpened the case for browser governance. A UK study found 71% of employees have used unapproved consumer AI tools at work, with more than half doing so every week. NinjaOne Browser Management lets IT teams set policy on which AI sites and extensions are permitted, without asking users to change the browser they are already in.
"The browser was the one layer of our environment we didn't have consistent visibility into, and that's exactly where the risk was growing," said Lars Andersland, Managed Services at Erickson Technologies. "Once we turned on NinjaOne Browser Management, we were shocked to see just how many vulnerabilities we were exposed to through the browsers we use every day. We now have better visibility, we can enforce policy consistently to reduce our risk, and we did it without adding new infrastructure or onboarding another vendor."
NinjaOne positions the product as extending an existing management model rather than adding another console. Deployment does not require users to switch browsers; Browser Management sits on top of Chrome, Edge or whichever browser is already in place.
