Munich Airport (Flughafen München GmbH) has been working with Celonis, the process intelligence platform, in an expanded collaboration aimed at continuous workflow improvement, operations automation, and cost reduction. The partnership, announced Wednesday, focuses on applying Celonis's Context Model to create what the companies describe as a living operational view of the airport's process chains.
In practice, the first domain is baggage handling — a process that combines check-in data, storage logistics, ground crew movements, and discharge confirmation across a chain of systems that rarely talk to each other in real time. The Celonis implementation aggregates that data and applies three capabilities: predictive capacity management to identify peak loads and pre-position resources, near-real-time monitoring of individual bag journeys from check-in to aircraft discharge, and automatic alerts when baggage handling thresholds are exceeded so the right teams can act before a delay is confirmed.
For Celonis, the Munich Airport engagement fits into a broader argument the company has been making about process intelligence as the layer that makes AI deployments actually useful in operational environments. Without a reliable, continuously updated model of how an organisation's work moves, AI agents operate on incomplete or stale process data — producing recommendations that don't map to what's happening on the ground. The Context Model is designed to close that gap by combining process data, business knowledge, and intelligence into a single view.
