The Opéra national de Paris has appointed Iron Mountain to catalogue, digitise, and publish its visual collections, starting with 350 years of performance posters. The project runs through Iron Mountain's Insight DXP platform, which will surface the digitised posters directly on the Opéra's website.
Iron Mountain has been in document storage and information management for 75 years, and its Insight DXP suite handles the movement from physical records to searchable digital archives. The Opéra national de Paris, founded in 1669, is one of the oldest opera institutions in the world and holds physical archives spanning that entire history.
The engagement covers on-site cataloguing, digitisation of the Opéra's performance poster collection at production resolution, and delivery of a browseable digital archive through the institution's own web presence. Iron Mountain will carry out the physical digitisation of the posters; the resulting digital assets will be accessible via Iron Mountain's platform without the Opéra building separate archive infrastructure.
The contract covers both preservation and access layers. Previous approaches to institutional digitisation often separated these, leaving organisations with digitised assets they could not readily publish or update. The shared platform model removes that split by keeping storage, access, and delivery inside the same system.
The announcement was timed to European Heritage Days, a pan-European initiative that gives particular visibility to the work of cultural institutions preserving physical material. Iron Mountain holds digitisation and information management mandates with 240,000 customers across 61 countries, including approximately 95% of the Fortune 1000.
