Fin's Operator AI agent goes generally available after 20,000 improvements in early access

Three months after opening early access, Fin — the customer support platform formerly known as Intercom — is making Operator generally available. The AI agent, which monitors live support data and proposes operational changes for human approval, has already driven more than 20,000 improvements across early customers.

Operator works by continuously analysing support conversations and Fin's configuration to surface issues and improvement opportunities. It can draft changes to settings, help content, and workflows, but requires a human to approve before anything goes live — a design that keeps AI-generated changes auditable and reversible.

The early access numbers tell a particular story about adoption patterns. Customers including Synthesia and Road ran 76% of their Fin testing through Operator, and 50% of updates. More than 4,300 pieces of help content were written or edited via the tool, alongside over 3,500 workflow updates and 10,000 configuration changes.

"It's like having a second brain watching the whole system with you," said Bob Gerrmann, Road's AI Business Process Specialist. "For the AI team, it means faster building and less post-launch validation. For the support team, one more class of tickets they'll never see again."

Fin positions Operator as the most significant product change since the company launched Fin itself — and the most significant signal of where AI-native customer operations is heading. Rather than automating individual interactions, Operator targets the operational layer: the configuration decisions, content gaps, and workflow adjustments that support teams have historically managed through manual UI work.

Fin rebranded from Intercom in 2025 as part of a broader shift to position the platform around its AI agent rather than the messaging product it originated as.
