Epsilon Telecommunications, a global interconnectivity provider and part of South Korea's KT Corp, has partnered with ESpanix, Spain's first digital hub and one of Southern Europe's largest, to provide on-demand connectivity between the Iberian Peninsula and global cloud and data centre ecosystems.
The partnership lets Epsilon's customers reach ESpanix's carrier-neutral infrastructure in Madrid and Barcelona through Epsilon's Infiny Network-as-a-Service platform, eliminating the need to deploy local infrastructure in Spain. ESpanix customers gain access to Epsilon's global backbone and its direct connectivity to hundreds of cloud regions. Both sides gain reach without adding physical footprint.
The Iberian Peninsula's value as a connectivity point has been growing as submarine cable capacity between Europe, Africa, and the Americas increases. Multiple cable landing stations around the peninsula position Spain and Portugal as natural aggregation and transit points for traffic moving between Western Europe, West Africa, and Latin America.
"The Iberian Peninsula is emerging as a central position and strategic gateway for global traffic flows, serving as a critical aggregation point connecting Europe, Africa, and the Americas via terrestrial links and submarine cables landing in Barcelona, Valencia, Almería, Lisbon and Bilbao," said Mark Daley, Director of Digital Strategy and Business Development at Epsilon. "Together, we are simplifying the complexity of global networking and providing a scalable foundation for the next generation of AI and cloud services."
ESpanix operates a Tier IV compliant data centre in Madrid alongside a network of points of presence across Madrid and Barcelona. The majority of Spanish networks are connected to the ESpanix node, which provides direct peering and reduces upstream transit dependency for carriers and content providers operating in the market.
"Working with Epsilon represents a significant step in ESpanix's evolution to serve an increasingly global customer base," said Amedeo Beck Peccoz, Head of Strategy at ESpanix. "The strategic location of our infrastructure in Madrid and Barcelona, offers a unique advantage for traffic engineering strategies aiming to reduce latency between Europe, emerging markets in Africa, and America."
Epsilon is headquartered in Singapore with offices in London and Sofia, and connects customers across Europe, the Middle East, the US, and Asia.
