BancaStato adds crypto trading to its Avaloq banking apps via Sygnum's regulated B2B platform

Swiss cantonal bank BancaStato has integrated Sygnum's digital asset services directly into its Avaloq core banking environment, enabling clients to buy, hold and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Solana from within existing web and mobile banking applications.

The 111-year-old Ticino-region bank is the first institution on Avaloq’s SaaS environment to connect to Sygnum via direct API without deploying a separate Order Management System, a configuration that reduces operational complexity and shortens the development cycle for new trading features.

Client assets are held in Sygnum’s institutional-grade multi-layer custody, operating off-balance sheet with hardware and software controls and independent external audits. All holdings remain in full regulatory compliance, providing protection in the event of insolvency.

The partnership expands Sygnum’s B2B network beyond 25 banks and international financial institutions, which already include PostFinance, Zuger Kantonalbank and SocGen FORGE. The company obtained an EU Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) licence under MiCAR from Liechtenstein’s Financial Market Authority on 30 June 2026, opening a pathway for European banks seeking a faster route to regulated digital asset services.
