Aegis Trace and InterSystems partner on AI decision accountability for regulated sectors

The collaboration brings together Aegis Trace's decision-level traceability capabilities, which record what an AI system did and why, with the InterSystems IRIS data platform, which provides the retrieval infrastructure and enterprise-scale data management organisations rely on for core operations. The combination is intended to let organisations move AI from pilot projects into regulated workflows while maintaining the audit trail regulators and customers are beginning to require.

Financial services is the initial target. InterSystems has operated in that sector for years; Aegis Trace was recently accepted into the FCA's AI Supercharged Sandbox programme, where it is working directly with the regulator as governance frameworks develop. The EU AI Act places explicit obligations on organisations running AI in high-risk applications to maintain records of how decisions are reached, what data was used and what oversight was applied.

"As regulated organisations adopt AI more widely, they need to be able to demonstrate how AI-supported decisions are made and what information informed them," said Tony Kelly, co-founder and CTPO of Aegis Trace. "Accountability can no longer be treated as a future consideration, yet many organisations still lack a clear way to evidence how decisions were reached."

"Aegis Trace is addressing an important challenge that many organisations are only beginning to recognise," said Clive Rumsey, sales director for InterSystems UKI. "As AI moves from experimentation into operational use, organisations will need greater visibility into how decisions are made and how those decisions can be explained and governed."

Aegis Trace is the decision-traceability platform from MSDK Labs. InterSystems IRIS underpins operational data management in financial services, healthcare and other regulated industries globally.
