I wondered whether you might be interested in a slightly more quirky but significant digital preservation/cloud story. Berea College in Kentucky has selected Preservica to future-proof one of the largest single sound collections in the world to the cloud.
Preservica is working with Amazon Web Services to move the 100 TB collection to the cloud, deploying AWS Import/Export portable storage devices and Amazon’s high-speed internal network to handle the migration. The collection is one of a kind, and consists largely of sound and video documenting traditional music and mountain culture.
Of chief concern was that it was previously stored on a variety of now mostly obsolete formats, and there was a risk some of it had been lost forever. Berea/Preservica/AWS happy to comment.
