Many people have said to us that a “cloud offering is useless without connectivity”. Pulsant has now addressed this by announcing a global networking deal with GTT Communications Inc.

The strength of Pulsant has always been its regional data centre footprint and interconnectivity from Scotland through to Croydon. The GTT deal brings the Pulsant cloud and Big Data services to 202 data centres and points of presence from Germany to Japan to the USA.

Commenting on the recent venture Andy Johnson, Managing Director GTT EMEA and APAC stated, “As the market moves more towards hybrid cloud services it is essential that secure, private connectivity solutions are easily accessible from all major metropolitan marketplaces. By linking to the Pulsant UK footprint of 10 data centres and their wealth of international clients and expertise, we are able to open these to the worldwide market and vice versa.”

Matt Lovell, CTO Pulsant stated, “the customer is the core of our services, therefore expanding our footprint globally brings our customers closer to core marketplaces.”

The best comment and one that I endorse wholeheartedly was from Rob Davies, Sales and Marketing Director Pulsant, said “cloud should be borderless, easy secure private access should be a customer right, as should any determined hybrid capability. Pulsant customers are now able to penetrate international marketplaces with private connectivity direct to the clients office anywhere in the world, and to any cloud or platform of choice.”

The Win-Win in this relationship:

  • Pulsant open their 10-data centre UK footprint to the GTT global wide area network
  • GTT gets access to major Pulsant clients to enable worldwide private networking
  • Pulsant deliver a single cable to the rack enabling access to all major networks and cloud / SaaS platforms including IBM Cloud and AWS.
  • Pulsant clients can reach major countries and territories through private networking rather than using the Public Internet

So what does this mean for their clients?

Well if you want your cloud services supported from two data centres in disparate locations to provide redundancy, but want both centres located in the UK to answer client concerns about data sovereignty then you won’t get this from any of the major cloud players. Pulsant is your best bet.

If you have offices across the UK that are using cloud applications that have significant I/O requirements or are sensitive to issues of latency or performance, then you want a choice of data centres near your regional offices. But rather than having to go for a provider with a single UK location, you want a reliable connection to, and between each data centre that isn’t going to suffer from packet loss or performance and latency issues.

If you want to be open for business for clients across the globe or want to partner with other players to provide hybrid solutions from a number of different global locations then you need reliable connectivity with a strong SLA and real global reach.

If all of these issues sound familiar and are important to your business then this deal between Pulsant and GTT is of real significance to you.

The final question that is at the forefront of our mind is: are we seeing Pulsant, the first truly UK centric data centre become an international cloud and SaaS hybrid player?

If that is the case then Pulsant has just become the British flag waving colocation and hosting facility of choice for those companies looking to access the UK markets. Certainly a story worth watching as it unfolds.
